From Narrative to Record
Before the Shift
Events arrived already surrounded by explanation.
Early observations were difficult to separate from the stories used to explain them: motive, personality, intention, failure, responsibility, and meaning.
Those explanations could be useful, but they also changed what was being observed. The explanation could become more visible than the event itself.
Developmental Shift
Preserve the record before explaining it.
After the Shift
Observation became the starting point.
The investigation began separating observable events, artifacts, behaviors, and outcomes from the explanations later applied to them.
The question was no longer immediately why something happened. The first question became simpler: What does the record actually show?
Result
This distinction became a methodological foundation of The Execution Layer: observation could be preserved without requiring immediate explanatory certainty.
